Class of 2000 Reunion Weekend

We went back to Rensselaer last weekend for my 10 year high school reunion.  But that wasn't all we did that weekend...

On Friday we were able to make it home in time for the FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS! :) Bomber Football!!!

The #2 in 2A Renssy Bombers were playing the #1 in 3A and defending state champions, the West Lafayette Red Devils.  It was Rensselaer's Homecoming too.  No pressure!

It was a great game! The Bombers crushed the Red Devils 27-10.  It was so awesome to see.  Coach Meeks started when my class was in high school so it was great to see how he has created and built such an impressive football program for our school.  Way to go, Bombers!

It was really hard to take pictures from far away at night.  :(

Look at all the students waiting to rush the field! They were patient at least.

Then, as is the weekly tradition, the Bomber football players spread out (with all the students) and did their Bomber Jacks to celebrate their victory.  Poor Westside kinda got shoved off the field in the back right corner of the picture there.  Awww. :(

Here's a picture of my dad and Adam in the press box.  My dad does the music for the Bombers.  In fact, he's FAMOUS (Northwest Indiana Times Article-- A MUST READ)! Yes, please read the article.  It mentions my dad by name in the fourth section down titled "Overhead Music".  Number One, Baby!!! He's a music wizard!

On Saturday morning, we drove down to the Westside (where the embers were still burning from the incineration of the Red Devils) and visited the Purdue tailgate.
Wyatt was there looking extra cute in his Boiler jersey.

He still likes howling and it's funny every time! :)

Claire, Katie and I at the tailgate.  The weather was absolutely perfect that day.

THIS? This is my high school reunion.  I believe there were 24 people there from our class, two of which were boys.  It was beyond sad.  It was pathetic.  As it turns out, people don't need reunions anymore because they can find out everything they need to on Facebook.  THANKS FACEBOOK.  :-/

Later that night, we met at the Pub for dinner and drinks.  The Bangles, or the OCG's as we called ourselves, reunited next to a weird golfer statue.  :)

Andrew and Tristan enjoyed the beverages....

and the girls sat around told gross stories about labor, or reminisced about great high school memories.
We laughed so hard that I think I have ab muscles again.
Haha, just kidding. Have you seen my belly?
There were definitely more people that showed up that night which was fun.  Haven't seen some of these girls for a long time!
Who replaced me in this picture with Barney the Purple Dinosaur?? What's up with that?

We brought Brian home with us this weekend.  He really enjoys his time on Grandma and Grandpa's farm.
But this weekend, he was lucky enough to get a visit from a special friend.  The neighbor dog Daisy (a wonderfully sweet pup) came over to play.
Brian was in heaven (except for the fact that he couldn't run free like Daisy, but who's fault is THAT, Mr. Brian Lancelot Thornburg???).

30 Weeks: Where have you been?

It's been TWO WEEKS since I last posted.  Whoops.  But we've been pretty busy lately and I haven't had a chance to update.  Well here's your update, folks, complete with a sadface.

Don't worry, it's not about the pregnancy in any way.  I just happened to shatter the screen of my beloved phone right before I took this picture.   Boo to that bad news.

But anyway, on to the 30 week update...

Your baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and he weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds him, but that volume will decrease as he gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. His eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after he's born, he'll keep his eyes closed for a good part of the day. When he does open them, he'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means he can only make out objects a few inches from his face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

Your Baby:
  • Weighs about three pounds and is 17 inches long. Since most full-term babies are between 20 and 22 inches long at 40 weeks’ gestation, your baby will pack on more pounds than inches in the 10 weeks or so.
  • Is starting to get a little crowded in there, but still has room to wiggle and roll and punch and kick.
  • Despite all the movement, it’s still damn near impossible to tell what position your baby is in for sure (head down, breech, transverse, etc.), but it’s also still too early to be worrying about it. MOST babies settle into a head-down position around 36 weeks, and some still manage to flip themselves around after that.
  • May feel like you’re gestating a pissed-off housecat rather than a chubby wittle baby at this point, with some movement and kicks causing ACTUAL PHYSICAL PAIN. Some women experience kicks so sharp and unnerving they mistake them for uterine contractions, even if they’ve already been through pregnancy and labor and should really know better.
  • Some of these women may even write pregnancy guides on the Internet.

How have I been feeling?
I can't complain really.  Minor discomforts and frustrations.  (I really need a pedicure because I can't quite reach my feet. Plus I can't make it through an hour -okay, half hour- of ANYthing because my bladder is in charge.) But other than that, I'm feeling pretty good.
As for the mental side of things, I've known since the beginning that things in my life would never be the same but recently they've started to become clear exactly what some of those things are going to be.  It's sad to let that part of my life go but I have to imagine how cool life is going to be in the future.

Pre-natal Yoga
This week's class was almost hard.  It was more like pilates.  Lots of planks, lunges, and squats.  It was a decent workout.  I hope we do that again in the future.

Birthing Class
We started our birthing class last week.  The instructor is quite entertaining.  We watched a video of a birth this week.  That was.... fun.  But she's giving us lots of really good information.  There are about 10 couples in the class.  The couple that always sits by us... well, they suck.  The guy texts during the entire class (gonna be a great dad, I think) and then they fight when he's not texting.  This week they left early.  They must know everything already. :)  Hopefully we don't have to sit by them next week.  Ugh.

I gotta say little Baby Burg's movements feel different now.  They definitely feel more like a little person moving around and less like bubbles.  It's pretty incredible.

And finally your instructional pregnancy and baby guides for the week...

Good to know!

28 Weeks: Time Flies... Like a Chicken

Yep, Halloween is getting closer and Morgan is starting to get ready! I got out Brian's chicken costume for this shot.  He fled like Polanski when I got it out.  He does NOT like that thing.  He hates it so much he ate the hat that went with it.  Just ripped it to shreds.  So I drew a hat on him instead.

Anyway, let's talk about Baby T, shall we?

Your Baby:
  • Continues to get a longer and fatter by the day. Shocking, I know. His or her weight has actually doubled in the past month alone, which is why you’ve probably gotten comments about “popping” recently.
  • Weight is around 2.5 pounds right now, which (if you’re like me, gazing in horror and your inside-out belly button and spidery stretch marks) might sound a little frightening, since the baby clearly needs to gain a LOT MORE WEIGHT before he or she is fully cooked, and oh my God, how in the world is anything bigger going to fit in there?
  • Are either feeling like this pregnancy will NEVER end, or that 12 more weeks is simply not nearly enough time to prepare. Or you might feel both ways, changing your mind one minute to the next.
  • Must move furniture and fold clothes and organize the linen closet and replace the bathroom vanity and finally get rid of that sooty stain on the marble fireplace and yes, DARLING, these are all essential tasks that MUST be completed before the baby gets here, DO NOT ARGUE WITH ME, NOW GO HANG UP SOME SHELVES.

  • Your baby's organs are becoming refined enough for him to start testing them out. The lungs are dividing and are getting a workout (although he's not really breathing). His kidneys are regularly producing urine, which flows into the amniotic fluid. He also swallows this fluid and "breathes" it back in. This recycling helps his lungs, intestines, and kidneys practice their jobs of breathing, digestion, and elimination.
  • Your baby's eyes are busy these days. He can open and close them and look around. By 30 weeks he's well able to coordinate his eye and body movements. For example, he'll blink and then turn away if a very bright light shines on your abdomen.
  • Although your baby has soft hair on his head, it's probably darker than his final hair color will be, and he'll lose it a month or two after birth. He now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds and is between 14 and 15 inches long.
Prenatal Yoga

On Monday, I started my Prenatal Yoga class.  I like it so far.  It's very calming and good for clearing the mind of any pregnancy/baby worries.  Plus my sore back is not-so-sore anymore! That's the best benefit.  The instructor definitely pushes the natural birth and hiring a doula.  I'm listening.  I haven't known anyone (in the recent baby boom) who did either of those things recently so I'm interested to hear what she has to say.

Hospital Tour

We went on a tour of the hospital this past weekend! We saw the entire floor and learned about the facility.  They had cupcakes and punch.  Plus there were vendors there giving away free stuff. Bonus! But the most memorable part of the day was when I went in to the restroom before the tour and there were 3 or 4 ladies in there looking in the toliet at one girl's lost mucus plug.  Yiiii-iiii-ikes.  Oh and by the way, DO NOT google that.
I graciously told her "Congrats!" and got the heck out of there before they made me look at it.

Glucose Test

I had my Glucose Challenge Test last Friday.  Everything was fine until I got a call from my OBGYN's office.  "Ummm, did you want your test results faxed to a law firm's fax number?"
Exsqueeze me? A baking powder?  What is this all about?
The woman on the phone said that my results had been faxed to a law firm and they wanted to check to make sure this was right.  They said because my last name was Thornburg, I might have wanted them faxed to my husband who must be a lawyer in town.  WHAT?? Not AGAIN! This is the third time we have been confused with the law firm of Barnes & Thornburg!!! This law firm must sue the crap out of people because people are very careful when it comes to our last name.  It's crazy.  But as it turns out, it was a total mix up that I never fully understood.  The law firm shredded my documents and my test results turned out fine.  Yay! One less thing to worry about!

Now for the weekly instructional guide.  We have two this week.  One for pregnancy and one for baby.

I feel like I'm learning so much!

My Sunday on the D-List

On Sunday, my mom, my aunt and I all went to see Kathy Griffin at the Murat Theater for a quick Girls Day Out excursion.  We did a little shopping at Circle Center Mall.  We ate at the Rathskeller.  Then we settled in at the Murat Theater for some raunchy entertainment.

Here we are! I'm not kidding you when I say we were surrounded by gays.  Kathy Griffin has a huge gay following and she talked about it a lot in her show (she was screaming something to the effect, "WHERE ARE MY INDY GAYS?").  She does a lot of work for LGBT rights and she knows who butters her bread. :)  There were about 3 straight guy jokes, though so she's still very equal opportunity.

As you can tell, we had excellent seats.

I'm not kidding you when I say that she spent the first 45 minutes (I timed it) making fun of Elizabeth, Indiana.  Kathy spent the prior night doing two shows at the Horseshoe Casino in that town, "Betty", as she called it.  It was hilarious.  She referenced a lot of Indiana things.  Such as "I'm going to need Peyton Manning to escort me out to my car to make sure I get out of here alive!"

So here she was making fun of Betty, IN, saying it's so nice to be back in a real town.  She made fun of how hillbilly that part of the state is, where you can see a "Powerkeg Fireworks" billboard, then a "PT's Showclub" billboard, then immediately following a "Jesus Saves" billboard.  Tons of hilljack jokes.  But the funniest part of the whole thing was all these people from Indy were like rolling on the floor laughing, "Yeah that's so hillbilly, we're totally not like that."  Ummm, you do realize you're still in Indiana right? Brickyard, anyone? Ok ok, sorry.  That was mean.  :)

So.... sidenote: Not too long ago on Twitter, Kathy Griffin shared this above.

Then when she referred to getting beat by a Ryan Seacrest show at the Emmy's, she made this motion about him...

Ha! That's just naughty.

But the show was really really entertaining.  She made fun of EVERYONE.  No one was spared.  Thousands of F-Bombs were dropped.  Very funny.

On a personal note, she took some time to make fun of the show "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" which is one of my FAVORITE shows. I was almost giddy! (Yes, that links to the show website, which, by the way, also has a link to how you get ON the show.  Awesome. Think I could fool them? "Der was a baby in ma turrlit!!" Gotta practice my accent.)

It was a super fun trip.  Thanks to my aunt Shiela for putting it all together!

Tri Weekend

This weekend was Andrew's triathlon.  Yes, you read that right.  Andrew has moved from running 10Ks to doing triathlons (and playing hockey and whatever other hobby he wants to pick up right before the baby is born).  The triathlon was in Niles, MI which is like a 20 minute drive from our house.  Andrew has a knack for peer pressure or something because he convinced 4 friends to do this with him.  Nice!
So his fellow tri-ers and their families all came over to our house for the weekend.
Some action shots from the race:

Carb-ing up the night before the race. (Andrew would like to note that Kevin did NOT carb up before the race since they got to our house too late to enjoy any "carbs").

Travis passed us first even though Andrew was the fastest swimmer.  He passed Andrew in the transition area.

Then Andrew came running by us. Pay attention to the long sleeves.  It was quite chilly that morning.

Stafford (red) was right behind Andrew (blue) when they took off on their bikes.

Here's a nice picture of AJ mounting his bicycle.  ACTION SHOT! :)

Luke had to stop to put his chain back on.  Of all the times to lose a chain! BUMMER!

BABY PARTY! This was the first time that Addie (pink) met Jack (green) and Wyatt (red).

Jack did not like the chilly weather.  Actually this little cutie just has a natural habit of sticking his lip out.  He was perfectly cozy in Wyatt's hat. :)

Wyatt enjoyed the bikes passing by.

When the guys returned from their bike portion, Andrew was READY TO RUN and almost dropped his bike.  If you click on the picture, you can see him laughing.

Stafford crossed the finish line first.  If you look closely at all the pictures of the guys, you can see them laughing because we were yelling at them as they ran/biked by.  Maybe we shouldn't have said things like, "I LOVE A MAN IN SPANDEX!" and "MY HUSBAND HAS A GREAT BUTT!"  Whoops.

Behold Andrew's spandex-clad butt in this action shot.  :)  Go Andrew GO!

There's goes Travis in his tri-suit!

Luke warned us about his tan lines.  I guess we could never really be totally prepared. :-)

There goes AJ on his way to the finish line!
We couldn't be more excited for these guys.  They did so well.  They finished a Super Sprint Triathlon! Very cool.  The full results are HERE
But if you're feeling lazy, this is what you want.
Kevin and Andrew were first and second in their old man age group.   AJ is a bit younger than the rest of the crew so I had to do a little cut and paste for his results.

So CONGRATS to the Triathletes! Very proud!

Here they are: Kevin, Andrew, Travis, Luke, & AJ. Congrats guys!

After the race we came back to our house to watch Notre Dame slaughter Purdue.  Oh they only lost by 11 points? My bad.  I was just reading all the Notre Dame versions of the game.  :)
Yes, Purdue lost the game and we looked pretty bad.  But we still have Hope that they will get their crap together and show us that speed and talent they've been bragging about.  Come on, Boilers! You can do it!

So before, during and after the Purdue game was the baby party.  Man, could these kids be any cuter?
Here's Jack drowning his sorrows from the Purdue game in his bottle. :)

Here's Addie in Outfit 2 (I think?? There were quite a few costume changes)  of her fashion show.  She was modeling some super hip leg warmers.  You can't get much cuter than that!

Or can you? This is Wyatt and Jack modeling some matching red outfits in the green grass while posing with a basketball.  I swear I did not set this picture up.  The cuteness just exudes in a picture-perfect way every time!

Ok so the following pictures were totally set up.  But seriously, what a photo-op!
I'm seriously considering sending these to the Kan Jam company.  What a great advertisement!
Just chillin' inside...

But they didn't enjoy it the entire time...

Oh no!! He even cries with his bottom lip sticking out!! Poor Wyatt is like, "Um it's just Kan Jam, dude!"

Of course he had to see how it tastes!

Wyatt felt so manly in the Kan Jam game that he left out a big ol' howl. Ahhhwwwhoooooo!!!

You would think the cuteness stops there but it does not...
Awww, Wyatt gave Addie a kiss!

That's when Daddy Jacob decided to step in and say put a stop to things. :)  Don't you think she's a little young for you, Mr. Wyatt?

Awww! Look at the grandparents-in-training! Not too much longer! :)

Andrew posed with Jack.  Adorable.

With the babies around, the night didn't end up getting too rowdy.  Even though the boys were playing some made-up Knockout/Waterfall game.

But then again, AJ DID end up in the baby seat...

Fun times! Let's do it again next year!
